In the semi-main event of this year’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Roman Reigns put his Universal Championship on the line against Kevin Owens in a Last Man Standing Match.
They started in the ring, but they quickly worked their way around ringside and onto the podium at the gear list that Owens was pushed through a few weeks ago. They reached the top level through the LED screens and Owens took out Reigns’ left knee with chair shots.
Owens was thrown off the platform and through a table, but he was able to get up again on the count of 9. Owens made his way to another part of the stadium, and out of nowhere Reigns drove him over with a golf cart. Owens suffered a brutal attack after Reigns made a comment about his grandfather. Owens put Reigns through a table with a frog splash, but Reigns was able to get to his feet before the count of 10. Owens then bombed a raised forklift and through Reigns, which had been placed on a table. They played ‘holy sh **’ chants on the spot.
Owens brought Reigns back to the ThunderDome. Reigns fought back with a Superman punch and a spear through the LED screens near the stage, but Owens was able to roll off stage and onto his feet for the count of 10. Owens handcuffed Reigns to a piece of staging equipment and the referee was about to count to 10, but Reigns grabbed the referee and slapped his face against the steel structure. A second referee appeared when Paul Heyman attempted to free Reigns from the handcuffs. Apparently there was a problem with the key and it took Heyman an eternity to retrieve the shackles from Reigns. The referee even stopped counting when he realized Reigns was still shackled. Reigns locked in a guillotine on Owens and that was enough for him to win as KO couldn’t get up.
