Last year Blizzard conducted a poll to determine what kind of ride World of Warcraft players wanted as a special community mount. We chose the Wandering Ancient, and now that choice has paid off, or in this case a very damn tree, now free to anyone who owns the Shadowlands extension.
The Wandering Ancient is a wise ancient tree that has been slowly slogging through various Azeroth countries since the game’s launch. It’s an iconic beast, which is why it beat competitors as a slimy cat and colorful caterpillar in last year’s vote. Now the bark-covered beast is in play, available for free in the mount tab of everyone who owns it Shadowlands, as well as anyone who buys the extension in the future.
The nice thing about the Wandering Ancient, aside from its sheer size, is that the leaves change color with the seasons, giving players a reason to break it out all year round. Unfortunately, it doesn’t fly, but that makes sense. If trees could fly, there would be no trees on the ground.
My favorite feature of the Wandering Ancient, however, is the caterpillar that rides behind my player character, a nod to the community mount that might have been.
It’s nice to have a handy snack at hand while driving through the afterlife.
