The Secretary of the Department of Labor and Human Resources, Carlos J. Rivera Santiago, announced this afternoon that unemployment insurance claimants can renew their benefits once they are exhausted in the same system where the subsequent weeks are claimed.
“Our system has been updated, all those unemployment insurance applicants who have exhausted their benefits will be able to automatically perform an extension of 13 additional weeks under the PEUC program, answering the questions that appear before submitting their claim for the following weeks. Rivera Santiago explained.
“The applicant does not have to wait for our staff to implement his benefit extension, he just visits our website and in the area of the next unemployment claim, once he has entered his social security and PIN, he will answer the questions with PEUC,” stated the head of the agency.
The Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act establishes a temporary program of benefits known as Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), which provides up to 13 additional weeks of benefits for individuals who have all their unemployment insurance entitlements exhausted and fit and available for work, most are actively looking for work. Applicants for this program must have exhausted their unemployment benefits.

3. Entitlement to the following week due to unemployment
4. Enter your social security number and pin code
5. Answer the questions related to the PEUC
6. Answer all questions for the weeks with dates.

“We remind plaintiffs that this compensation is for anyone who has exhausted their benefits. They have until December 26, 2020 to submit the extension of the benefit, ”he concludes.
