Wonder Woman 1984 has a post credits scene, have you seen it yet?

Warning: there are spoilers for “Wonder Woman 1984”. It doesn’t matter how you watch this movie in the lead Gal Gadot, now available to watch in theaters and stream HBO Max, make sure to keep reading the credits.

If you don’t, you miss a very rewarding scene with the middle credits for fans who shed light on an earlier moment in the film. If you missed it, we are here for you.

This happens in the 1984 Wonder Woman post credit scene

The scene opens with a woman walking through a busy street market. She has her back to the public, but we are led to believe she is Wonder Woman because of her dark, wavy hair.

The woman prevents a falling beam from hitting a baby in a pram. The girl’s mother calls her and asks her to thank the stranger. The woman turns and reveals it not Diana Prince, but another Themysciran called Asteria.

Lynda Carter appears on the scene after the end credits of WW1984.

The mother praises her name and Asteria shares that it is a name from her culture. When asked how she managed to save her daughter, Asteria says, “It’s just a simple weight change. It takes practice. But I’ve been doing this for a long time.”

Asteria then winks at the camera and leaves. The scene then ends and announces the role of Lynda Carter as Asteria in the movie.

Lynda Carter played the original Wonder Woman on TV

Lynda Carter played the heroine during three seasons, from 1975 to 1979. The series began on ABC before moving to CBS for the past two seasons.

The actress recently recalled her own daughter falling in love with Gadot’s version of the iconic Warner Bros. character at a virtual event. DC Fandome in August.

“Mom, I finally understand. Finally I understand why everyone adores you, ”she said, remembering their conversation.

It’s very fitting that the movie revealed that Carter was Asteria. In case you forgot, Diana (Gal Gadot) mentions Asteria to Steve earlier in the film. She tells him so Asteria was the best warrior in the Amazons.

“When humanity enslaved the Amazons, my mother set us free,” Diana told Steve. “But someone had to stay behind to turn the tide of men so the others could escape.” That’s where Asteria came into the picture.

“My people have given up all their armor to make their suits strong enough to take on the whole world,” added Diana. “Asteria has sacrificed herself for a better day for others.”

Asteria allowed the Amazons to flee to Themyscira, an island inhabited only by women seen at the beginning of “Wonder Woman 1984”. As Diana speaks, we briefly see a flashback showing only Asteria’s eyes as the men surround her in their golden armor.

Diana tells Steve that she has been looking for her since 1918, but has only been able to find her armor. He uses it at the end of the movie to confront Barbara Minerva, who at that point has become Wonder Woman’s main enemy, Cheetah.

Will Asteria be in the new Wonder Woman movie?

Does this character ever appear in the comics? Yes, but it is a different character. Asteria is mentioned twice in DC Comics.

The movie version doesn’t seem to be related to the comic book iterations at all, just to count that Asteria’s first appearance is in No. 1 of 1998 Elseworld’s Finest: Supergirl & Batgirl, where he is a budding member of the superhero group Justice Society, set in a parallel universe.

Indeed, the powerful character Asteria has been in DC comics.

Asteria later appears in a unique 2018 comic, Aquaman / Justice League: Drowned Earth, like a bird who works next to Wonder Woman.

In a later issue of Justice League, Diana says it was named after one of her Amazon sisters who “fought against the gods.”

In this sequel, Diana hinted that she had been searching for Asteria for years without success. If there is another “Wonder Woman” movie, maybe a third episode can reconnect them..

It is currently unclear whether Warner Bros. plans other ‘Wonder Woman’ projects and, if so, it would probably take a while as Patty Jenkins will return to the helm. He recently announced that he is working on one “Star Wars” for Disney.
