The woman received the injection Friday afternoon and was observed as she began to complain of a feeling of discomfort and loss of consciousness, according to a statement by Dr. Michael E. Morris, MD of Kaiser Permanente’s COVID-19 vaccination program in Southern California, that the site.
On-site paramedics assisted the woman “but she could not be revived in the end.”
“Her cause of death has not been established; however, there were no signs or symptoms of a severe allergic or anaphylactic reaction,” Morris said in the statement.
The woman’s family says she has a history of heart-related conditions. Her 57-year-old husband also received the vaccination and continues to urge people to get the vaccine, adding that he plans on getting his second dose in a few weeks.
Kaiser says the site will remain open and vaccinations will continue as long as supplies are available.
“On behalf of everyone involved in the vaccination site, led by Kaiser Permanente, we offer our sincere and sincere condolences to her family,” said Morris.
