The shift to working from home amid the COVID-19 pandemic will be temporary for many companies, but like Twitter, Facebook and Microsoft, Spotify seems to be embracing remote working for the long haul. It announced a Work From Anywhere program, which will enable employees to set up shop virtually anywhere.
It will largely be up to employees whether they venture into an office once it is safe to do so again or usually work from home (or pretty much anywhere with a decent internet connection). If they choose a location that doesn’t have a Spotify office nearby, the company will set them up a co-working space membership. Spotify called the move a ‘new way of collaborating that Spotifiers can work with wherever they do their best’.
Once the program gets off the ground in the summer, employees should have a chat with their manager and team to find out how often they will visit the office, if at all. However, there are a few location limits based on time zone requirements and “regional entity laws”.
Spotify is joining several other major tech companies to adopt a culture of remote working. Salesforce just made a similar announcement. It allows for more flexibility when it comes to schedules and allows most employees to work from home for at least part of the week.
