Fans of Marvel’s Avengers only want one thing, and it’s about to become a reality. No, it is not meaningful loot, nor is it a renewed surplus of engaging activity. Look, fine, maybe Avengers fans want more than one thing, but a big one is coming next week: you can finally play the campaign again.

As noted by Game Informerdeveloper Crystal Dynamics announced the long-awaited change to a recent “War Table” stream. It will be part of next week’s big game update, which will also happen introduce Clint Barton – the Avenger who’s really good at darts – at the game’s roster. You keep your level and your equipment. Marvel’s Avengers undoubtedly has one rocky six monthsnot least because of a lack of replayable content plus a range of delays, including those of the next-gen versions. The campaign of the game is on perhaps the strongest part of the game, but once completed, there is no way to redo those missions. A chance to run through it again is a blessing everywhere.

In addition to the ability to replay the campaign, next week’s update will also see the release of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S special versions of Marvel’s Avengers, those were delayed last October. Crystal Dynamics has detailed the specifications of those versions a blog post earlier today.

People who already have the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One can upgrade at no extra cost within the same console family (so PS4 to PS5 is fine, but PS4 to Xbox Series S is not). You will also be able to match from generation to generation. No surprise, but next-gen versions will bring de rigueur visual enhancements, including 4K visuals on PS5 and Xbox Series X. (it’ll be up to 1440p on Xbox Series S.)

According to Game Informer, next week’s update will also introduce a new biome, a new villain and a new storyline (Hawkeye’s), plus the ability to customize the HARM room, the in-game practice space that lets you control waves of increasingly difficult enemies combat. It will take heroic effort to save Marvel’s Avengersno doubt, but this update – the biggest since the game’s launch last fall – might just be enough to get players back into the fold.
