With billions at stake, Gov. Whitmer and the Michigan Republicans concede

DETROIT – For a year now, the Michigan governor and legislature have been sparring about how to handle the COVID crisis.

Recently, the Republican-controlled agency approved an additional $ 4 billion budget, with many conditions, requiring Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer to relinquish emergency powers.

Monday Whitmer weighed where she stands.

Both sides remain true to their form. Neither side deviates and the war of words continues to escalate.

“We have $ 5 billion allocated to the Michigan Legislature, whose Republican control is trying to stop those dollars and get me to give up the executive I used to save lives. They know this will never happen and it’s just really sad, ”said Whitmer.

Whitmer was on MSNBC Monday morning.

“And so it is very disappointing that our legislature is playing this dangerous game with resources we badly need, but unfortunately you know we have to keep trying to do everything we can to get ahead,” Whitmer said.

Owosso’s House Republican leader Ben Fredericks believes the governor is playing a dangerous, stubborn one game.

“I think it still paints the picture that this is a governor who just wants to act authoritarian, while talking about wanting to work with other people at every opportunity that comes up has been rejected. Working with this governor simply means complying with the rules, ”said Owosso.

Getting the billions of dollars that the federal government is offering Michiganders is getting more and more difficult.

“The governor will have to realize that he has to go it alone and stop shooting the hip statement by press conference. We cannot continue to bite off our lives in two or three steps based on what someone, a person might say. There must be a plan, ”Owosso said.
