Windows 10 stock apps could soon become best-in-class

While Windows 10 keeps getting better, one of the areas where Microsoft is getting a barrage of criticism is the poor ecosystem of desktop apps, as users think it’s out of line with the rival platforms. This is about to change as Microsoft looks forward to improving Windows 10 inbox apps.

In a vacancy, Microsoft says it is hiring experienced software engineers to make existing Windows 10 inbox apps “best-in-class.” One of its primary responsibilities is to deliver “best-in-class app experiences that promote happiness and productivity on Windows”. Microsoft’s goal is to provide users with “well-crafted native apps that showcase the best of the Windows platform and smooth design”.

Engineers qualified for the position must also work with Microsoft’s and Surface’s engineering teams, with the PM and design disciplines, and with the developer community. And in doing this, Microsoft believes that each member will help each other achieve more. Needless to say, improving the design of the Windows 10 inbox apps will also be one of the focus areas for Microsoft.

While Microsoft hasn’t shared further details on how it will improve Windows 10 inbox apps, the company is finally taking some serious steps to overhaul the app ecosystem. However, this is limited to Windows 10 inbox apps for now, meaning apps like Microsoft Photos will be better, while the experience of using third-party apps isn’t affected by this step. Still, there is something better than nothing.

However, it’s worth noting that Microsoft hasn’t provided us with a timeline as to when we can see these changes in Microsoft’s desktop operating system.

In addition to the inbox apps, Microsoft plans to make major changes to the taskbar, start menu, and action center of the desktop operating system. These changes are expected to come with the Windows 10 21H2 update, which is also popularly known as the Windows 10 Sun Valley update. The update is expected in the fall of 2021.

How many of you are excited about these changes? Let’s know in the comments.
