Wife of Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charge at Virginia Airport

The wife of infamous Mexican drug trafficker Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera was arrested on Monday at an airport in Virginia on charges of drug trafficking, federal authorities said.

Emma Coronel Aispuro, 31, was taken into custody at Dulles International Airport and is charged with conspiring to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for import into the US, the Justice Department said in a press release.

She also allegedly helped Guzman Loera escape a Mexican prison in 2015, the department said.

Guzman Loera was convicted in 2019 on 10 charges of participating in an ongoing criminal enterprise and multiple counts of distributing tons of cocaine to the United States. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years.
