Good nooews! Universal’s highly anticipated film adaptation of the Broadway blockbuster Wicked has finally found a director. According to Deadline, sources say John M. Chu will direct the movie musical (it is still produced by Ben Platt’s father). Chu has experience adapting musicals for the big screen with his film delayed until 2021 from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the heights, and Crazy rich Asians definitely has some Oz-esque glitter. Chu recently left the Disney + series Willow “Due to problems with COVID-19 that continued to drive production,” said Deadline, thus freeing up his schedule to work on Wicked. The adaptation of the Stephen Schwartz musical has suffered multiple delays, and director Stephen Daldry left the project last fall. Thank goodness Chu is on board. We couldn’t be happier.
