In an unexpected turn of events, a law student’s journey for errands ended with him and a friend who received shots of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Law student David MacMillan and his friend were at a Giant Food supermarket in Washington DC to pick up some groceries when a pharmacist approached them asking if they were interested in getting the injections. Surprised, he agreed, saying it was a “great way to start 2021”.
MacMillan posted a video on TikTok showing he got the vaccine, and the clip has since been widely shared on the platform. In the clip, he explained that several first responders scheduled to receive the Moderna vaccine had missed their appointments. Since the vaccine could not be kept at room temperature for more than a few hours, they had to be thrown away, which is why the staff offered it to them.
She turned to us and said, ‘Hey, I have two doses of the vaccine and I have to throw them out if I don’t give them to someone. We close in 10 minutes. Do you want the Moderna vaccine? MacMillan said according to one NY Post report.
Pfizer and Moderna coronavirus vaccines must be transported and stored at minus 70 and minus 20 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended states to first provide vaccination to first responders, essential workers, and populations at risk, including seniors in nursing homes.
“It is important that when there is so much misinformation floating around, people can see that this is a good thing, this is a positive thing. We should be excited about coping with the pandemic, ”MacMillan told NBC News.
Speaking of the vaccine, he said he had a mild reaction to the vaccine – a headache – but felt great overall. He also said the CDC checks him via text message every day to check for symptoms.
In a statement to AFP, said the supermarket man, “The Moderna vaccine is valuable and life-saving, and we are glad we didn’t waste it and give this couple a dose each.”
However, they weren’t the only ones vaccinated during a grocery shopping errand. Another Washington couple also received the footage at another store in town.
Franck Le Bousse, 51-year-old Washington resident recently walked into a Safeway market one afternoon and suddenly learned that more than a dozen doses of the Moderna vaccine would expire if no one took them before the pharmacy in less than an hour. hour closed.
‘I went shopping. . . . I have a vaccine! wrote the architect after posting a photo.
In a Washington Post report, the architect quickly called his wife Beth to come over to the store to take a photo as well.
“I just grabbed my coat and ran to Safeway,” she told the newspaper. She arrived when her husband got his shot in a separate room and remembered seeing him walk out after he was vaccinated. “He looked like he’d won the lottery,” she said.
