Why is Michael Strahan at home? Host of ‘Good Morning America’ tests positive for COVID

Pro Football Hall of Famer and “Good Morning America” host Michael Strahan has tested positive for COVID-19 and is quarantining himself.

“We know you’ve noticed that Michael hasn’t been here this week. He wanted us to let you know that he tested positive for COVID. He’s at home in quarantine,” said anchor Robin Roberts at the opening of the ‘GMA’ from Thursday.

Anchor George Stephanopoulos said Strahan is grateful to everyone who reached out and gave their good wishes.

“He’s also feeling good and is looking forward to being back here soon,” said Stephanopoulos.

Stephanopoulos said everyone who works at ‘GMA’, on and off the camera, has been approved by Disney to be in the studio after tracing contacts according to CDC guidelines.

Roberts said she texted Strahan saying his dog Enzo had kept him nice and warm.

Strahan, who also provides analysis of the “Fox NFL Sunday” pregame show, appeared remotely during last Sunday’s NFC championship game. However, Strahan also played remotely for much of the season, so the network’s Thursday night games did not conflict with his “GMA” schedule.
49-year-old Strahan has been absent from the ABC morning show all week and it remains uncertain when he will come back on.

He has been a member of “Good Morning America” since 2016 and has been a fixture in Fox’s NFL coverage since his retirement after the New York Giants won the third of their four Super Bowl titles in the 2007 season.
