Who will land the Giants?

The mock draft season has gathered momentum as the 2021 NFL draft approaches – now just eight days away. And that means it’s time for the annual combined mock version of ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay.

The rules of the combined mock draw are simple:

  • Three full rounds, all 105 tips.
  • The picks are interspersed with Kiper from number 1.
  • Cheating or lashing out is not allowed.

So, how did the New York Giants fare in this dueling mock design? Well, at number 11 overall, they got a gem in Alabama, wide receiver DeVonta Smith (chosen by Kiper).

Daniel Jones needs more guns, and now he has the Heisman Trophy winner in addition to the free agent Kenny Golladay signs. This Giants offense can be dangerous in the NFC East.

Smith’s chances of being available here: 47.6%

In Round 2, it was McShay’s turn to make a pick for the Giants and he chose Oklahoma edge rusher Ronnie Perkins, who has recently become a more popular mock for Big Blue.

I like this fit. Perkins is an excellent pass rusher, which is exactly what the Giants need, and it’s good value for him in this range. He had 5.5 sacks and nine QB rushes in just six games last season.

McShay also made the last Giants pick at No. 76 overall in Round 3, along with North Carolina linebacker Chazz Surratt.

Surratt has a range of sidelines and can cover tight ends or running backs in passing play. He adds another element to the Giants linebacking corps.

All three players are interesting picks and would likely play an important role for the Giants outside the gate, but are all the team’s concerns allayed? Would you be happy with these picks in the first three rounds, Big Blue fans?
