Who is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine in Florida?

More Floridians are now eligible for COVID-19 vaccines as additional doses are coming in and the demand for injections among seniors is declining.

Here’s a rundown of which people in the state are eligible for vaccines:

Residents aged 65 and over

Residents and staff in long-term care facilities

Primary health professionals who are in direct contact with the patient

Sworn law enforcement officers 50 and older

Firefighters aged 50 and over

Kindergarten through 12th grade school staff – If you fall into this category and are 50 or older, you can go to any state-supported vaccination site. If you’re 49 or younger, you can get vaccinated at retail pharmacies and at three FEMA-supported locations in Miami-Dade County, which accept walk-ups. College professors are not but qualify from March 5th.

Residents under 65 identified by a doctor as “extremely vulnerable” to COVID-19 – Note that not all sites will include these patients. Hospitals, doctors and pharmacists can administer the injections to patients they consider vulnerable. Three FEMA-supported locations in Miami-Dade also offer vaccines to vulnerable patients, who must have this specific form signed by a physician to be eligible. (Other state sites including Hard Rock Stadium and Marlins Park are not yet vaccinating vulnerable patients under 65.) Gov. Ron DeSantis said doctors’ offices will be getting Johnson & Johnson doses to administer to their patients in need. Contact your doctor and also check if the place where you want to be vaccinated is home to vulnerable patients under the age of 65.
