While Utah Senator Mike Lee opposes former President Donald Trump’s second charge, he calls for the disapproval of Liberal Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for tweeting that Texas Senator Ted Cruz tried to ‘kill me’ by assisting in the rising protesters who stormed the Capitol.
“I noticed that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted a few hours ago in which she twice accused one of our colleagues of attempted murder,” wrote Lee, who has been a close ally of Cruz for years. .
“I believe that, as a conference, we should immediately and publicly call her to withdraw her statement and apologize. If she refuses – and maybe even if she doesn’t – I think she should be admonished or censored by the House. “
Conn Carroll, spokesman for Lee, said the Federalist report was accurate, but declined to provide the letter or comment further. “Conference communication is usually confidential and we will respect that practice,” he said.
The metabolism came after Ocasio-Cortez started a series of tweets calling for hearings to investigate the stock trading app Robinhood. That was because the company temporarily halted trading in several stock purchases after online users started blowing up GameStop’s stock to undermine hedge funds.
Cruz said in a tweet that he agreed with that call – but the congressman then replied that she didn’t want his help.
“[Y]You almost had me killed 3 weeks ago so you can get this one out. Happy to work with almost any other GOP that isn’t trying to kill me, ”she tweeted.
That was a clear reference to the uprising and storming of the Capitol on January 6. Cruz was one of the leaders of an effort to overturn the Electoral College results that day. While the House accused Trump of instigating the riot, others have also said that members of Congress who tried to reverse the election share the blame.

Lee was not alone in calling for action against the New York congressman. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying that if Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t apologize, the Republicans will find other ways to condemn her statement.
“If Representative Ocasio-Cortez does not immediately apologize, we will be forced to find alternative means to condemn this regrettable statement,” Roy wrote. “It is my sincere hope that we will all stop this heightened rhetoric and move forward to actually do the work that the American people sent us here for.”
While Lee condemns Ocasio-Cortez for saying that Cruz tried to kill her through actions that may have confused rioters, he opposed an impeachment lawsuit for Trump this week on charges of instigating that riot. He did so in a vote on whether impeaching a president who has already left is constitutional, and he was among the 45 Republicans who voted it unconstitutional.
Lee made a brief statement after that vote.
“If the Senate were to adopt a broad interpretation of the impeachment power – one that would allow federal officials to be convicted of impeachment charges even after leaving office,” Lee said in a prepared statement, “the outcome would not only be problematic, but also contrary to the text, structure and historical understanding of the constitution. “
Utah Senator Mitt Romney was one of only five Republicans to vote that the proceedings are constitutional. It indicates that Trump is unlikely to be convicted, as 17 Republicans would have to join all 50 Senate Democrats to get the needed two-thirds majority.
