Florida has postponed the next three men’s basketball games as Keyontae Johnson remains at the University of Florida Health for testing and evaluation.
The Gators, who had previously canceled their game against North Florida on Wednesday, postponed games against Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Florida A&M on Sunday and James Madison on Tuesday.
“This was an emotionally draining time for Keyontae’s family, friends and teammates,” Scott Stricklin, Florida athletic director, said in a statement. “We hope that everyone affected will take the opportunity to process these emotions and regroup before the start of the new year.”
Florida’s next scheduled match is now the SEC opener in Vanderbilt on December 30.
Stricklin also provided another positive update on Johnson, who had been upgraded to a stable state on Tuesday and started breathing on his own and speaking with his family and doctors.
“Keyontae Johnson continues to show really encouraging signs of progress as he undergoes testing and further evaluation at UF Health,” Stricklin said. “He and his family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers and good wishes.”
Johnson collapsed on Saturday during the first half of Florida’s game against Florida State, falling face-first while returning to the field after a time-out in the first half. He received emergency medical attention and was taken from court on a stretcher before being rushed to the Tallahassee Memorial.
Johnson is a first-round prospect in ESPN.com’s latest NBA trial, averaging 16 points per game this season.
