COVID-19 vaccine appointments are available to local residents aged 75 or older and health care providers, but each provider has their own application system.
The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department oversees distribution to hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and its own vaccination sites, while federal pharmacy collaboration programs deliver vaccine doses to skilled nursing and assisted living facilities.
There are limited supplies of vaccines across the country and the world, and public health officials are hoping that more episodes will occur in the coming months, especially as more vaccines are approved for use.
As of now, the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines will be distributed across the county, and both require two doses (of the same kind) to be fully effective.
According to provincial officials, everyone should get their second dose in the same place as the first dose.
There are about 36,000 people who are 75 or older, so it will take weeks to get enough doses (two per person) to vaccinate everyone who qualifies. Health workers are also still being vaccinated, and there are an estimated 26,000 people in the province in that group.
As of Wednesday, the county was receiving about 6,000 vaccine doses weekly, of which about 51,000 have been received to date. Deliveries in December were larger and mostly reserved for primary health workers.

Anyone registering for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment must bring photo ID and proof of Santa Barbara County residence, which can be photo ID if the address is local.
County officials note that people who are currently not eligible for a vaccine should not make an appointment now.
“You will be sent away from the vaccination site,” said the province. “This takes an appointment away from someone who qualifies and slows down the process for everyone.”

Vaccine providers in Lompoc
The Lompoc Valley Medical Center is administering second doses to people who had their first dose there, and will begin scheduling more first-dose appointments when more vaccine doses are administered, CEO Steve Popkin said in his community message on Friday.

Vaccine Providers in Santa Barbara and Goleta
Health Director Van Do-Reynoso said this week that Cottage Health and Sansum Clinic, two of the larger vaccine providers in the area, have 19,000 people on waiting lists.
Cottage Health, which has a drive-up vaccination site at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital, said 13,000 people aged 75 and over have signed up to receive appointment notifications.
“Within the priority group of 75 and older, Cottage Health will open batches of appointments every week on an ongoing basis by sending notifications to groups in order of the date they were registered on the COVID-19 vaccine contact list,” he said. may take several weeks before you receive a scheduled notification. “

It notifies patients through MyChart, the electronic patient record, and sends messages to people without those accounts.
“If you log in to MyChart and an appointment is available, even if it is far in the future, schedule it as a placeholder and don’t consider it your last appointment. As our offering increases, we will work to move appointments to the earliest available date. By scheduling a future appointment, we can notify you when earlier appointments become available, ”says Sansum Clinic.
