Update, 1:00 p.m. PT: Sony Direct is also offering the PS5 today, with extremely limited availability.
If you’re still hoping for one PlayStation 5 in time for the vacation, time is running out fast and you’ll likely have to wait until 2021. Sony’s next-generation console launched in the US over a month ago – back on November 12th – but inventory was no match for demand and it was right away out of stock. A few consecutive stock declines have occurred in the same way since then. Right now, the only consoles you can buy have been marked to obscene levels on sites like eBay and StockX, often multiple times their retail value of $ 400 or $ 500 (depending on which model you want). The console was next to impossible to find, with at least one person waiting in line for 36 hours to get their hands on one at a California GameStop.

There have been a handful of new stock declines at retailers such as Walmart and Best Buy, the latter announced with much fanfare earlier this week some consoles for sale, which unsurprisingly sold out immediately.
Kudos for that Walmart and Antonline, two stores that have used Twitter in recent weeks to notify customers of declines in inventory. We will continue to monitor their accounts for news of new supplies.
As a reminder, the PS5 is available in two versions: a $ 500 model with Blu-ray, and an otherwise identical $ 400 digital version with no disc slot. Right now people are happy to get their hands on either, but if you don’t have an optical disc library – for Blu-ray movies, used games, or old PS4 games – we recommend go with the $ 400 version.

OK, you’ve exhausted all of the online and brick-and-mortar stores, and you’ve decided you’re willing to pay over $ 300 to get this puppy by Christmas. As your friend we have to tell you: Do not do it. But if you don’t want to listen to us, you might want to check out StockX, an eBay alternative that has made a name for itself in the secondary market for sneakers and designer clothing.
