The state of Ohio had a very successful year in every way. Yes, the benchmark includes winning a Big Ten Championship (check), making the College Football Playoff (check), and winning a national championship (doh), but seeing how the Buckeyes weren’t even supposed to play will we all tackle.
In fact, it could have been a special year had the Ohio State not encountered an absolute buzz-saw in the Miami national championship game against Alabama. The Bucks were shorthand, but even with a full number of players, OSU was highly unlikely to beat one of the best college football teams I’ve ever seen personally play.
That said, the latest S&P rankings are out, and we don’t need to tell you who’s number 1, who is on the Crimson Tide by a wide margin. Behind that, however, things were much closer. So where has Ohio State landed when it comes to ranking the strength of a team and the predictive measure of a team moving forward? Well, we are glad you asked.
