Whatsapp: If you receive this message, they are trying to steal your account

Cybercrime has stepped up its work this year due to the pandemic, through the use of the Home Office and internet sales, platforms like WhatsApp have become essential to today’s market.

That is why hackers are even more focused on social networks, but especially the instant messaging app as it is one of the most used in the world and the most popular for communicating.

From Spain they report about a new method where these criminals try to steal WhatsApp accounts, but in this case it is not a technical way, but rather something simple and fast.

Whatsapp account theft method

The new scam for users referring to Spanish media is to impersonate a victim’s contact and then write the following message:

“Hello, sorry, I accidentally sent you a 6-digit code by text message, can you pass it on? It is urgent”.

In that case the user will get a message with a 6 digit code, this is completely true. The problem is that sharing these numbers is extremely dangerous as they would register the user’s account on another mobile phone, meaning the hacker can access everything.

Here we have to make something very clear and that is that for nothing in the world you should share your WhatsApp codes with other people as the security of your account can be compromised and stolen by another person.

WhatsApp warns its users by saying “Never share your WhatsApp verification code with other people. If someone tries to take over your account, they will need the verification code sent to your phone by SMS. Without that code” No user will trying to verify your number can complete the verification process and use the number on WhatsApp. This means that you are in control of your WhatsApp account. “
