Autumn guys neon-drenched season four is officially out todayThe update introduces a number of changes to the platform game royale, including seven new levels:

  • Basketfall: Yes, Autumn guys gets another team ball throwing mini-game. We didn’t already know learn this lesson with Egg Scramble?
  • Skyline Stumble: Earlier this month, Mediatonic published showed from Skyline Stumble as the first tease of season four. It features 60 players, low gravity zones and whatever “flippity bippities” are.
  • Short circuit: This is a short round. Do you understand? Hey?
  • Hoverboard Heroes: Like the best Autumn guys levels, Hoverboard Heroes looks like a crazy sprint through an inventive obstacle course.
  • Power Travel: You know those team minigames where you get dropped into a panel area, and then you have to step on panels to switch them to your team? Power Trip is one of them.
  • Big shots: Big Shots looks like Autumn guys Yahtzee. Take the core concept of Fruit Chute – dodge giant objects fired from cannons – except, instead of fruit, make the objects giant planets. Then have the players balance on one of the See Saw level seesaws, everyone’s least favorite round.
  • Roll up: Autumn guys is at its best during the uncomplicated obstacle course in which a trillion pastel-colored beans sprint to the finish. Roll On is one of them, mixing the rotating web elements of Roll Out.

Autumn guys season four also introduces a squad mode, linking players to small groups of four. If someone on your team wins the final round, you all claim victory – a boon to those of us who consistently make it to the final fourth round to lose. Squads are also changing how elimination works. In races, you score points based on when you finished the race. Teams with the lowest score are kicked. The same principle applies to squad survival rounds: stay on track longer and you earn more points.

Today we also see the addition of Daily Challenges and a new currency called Crown Shards. Collect 60 of them and you can earn money for a crown. In theory, this should lower the barrier to earning crowns (and, more importantly, spending those crowns on the game’s increasingly crazy cosmetics).

These come along with a litany of bug fixes that Mediatonic detailed in a tweet last week. First, Fall Mountain will now spawn players in a single line so as not to give anyone an advantage. In Door Dash you will no longer be disqualified if you complete the race so hard that launches you over the edge. There are also other general performance fixes, user interface improvements, and the like. Best of all, though, you can quit anytime after the elimination, meaning you don’t have to wait for the next round to load.

With previous Autumn guys seasons, I quickly bounced back and found that each new season added little to the game. But seven new rounds that also look fun might be enough to get me in. Plus, the seasonal theme – a distant future that looks alarmingly like the 80s, minus the cocaine – is intriguing. We will see how long the interest lasts.
