Who killed Sara? It became the most watched Netflix series worldwide in less than a month. With just two weeks of shipping, the series has managed to rank first in more than 40 countries.
That was the success that the streaming company announced two days after its premiere that it would launch the second season on May 19, but what can its followers expect in the new season?
Series creator and producer, José Ignacio “Chascas” Valenzuela, spoke exclusively with THE SPOKESMAN about the second production season.
Season two is more intense than season one. It’s dizzying, more exciting, more surprising. The twists and turns are even more impressive. All I can tell you is that if they liked one, maybe the two will like it a little more, ”Valenzuela said from his Miami office.
This new season was recorded in Mexico last year at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Valenzuela explained that most of the first season’s episodes were taped in the last quarter of 2019 and once the pandemic started they stopped recording until they could resume the calls.
“There were a few chapters missing from the first season when the pandemic came and of course Netflix put everything on hold at that point to see what happened. We stopped for a few weeks. When we saw that we could take back everything with particular care, it was included in a very segmented way. I even rewrote several scenes from season one and season two to make them ‘covid-friendly’ without damaging the story, ”said the Chilean writer.
Valenzuela emphasized that no one was infected with covid-19 during the shooting.
The series stars the Colombian Manolo Cardona and the Mexican Carolina Miranda. In this second season three new actors are integrated. Matías Novoa (The Lord of the Skies), Daniel Giménez Cacho and Antonio de la Vega (Club de Cuervos, El Chapo). Eugenio Siller, Ginés García Millán, Claudia Ramírez and Alejandro Nones continue.
Likewise, Puerto Rican Luis Roberto Guzmán also continues in this new season and José Ignacio Valenzuela highlighted the Puerto Rican’s work during the filming.
“This is the first time I’ve worked with him. I’ve been following Luis Roberto’s career for years. She didn’t know him personally, of course, but from there. He worked on the same channels where he worked, he made films. The man is tough. I admire him a lot, ”he said.
Guzmán plays an openly gay lawyer who tries to start a family with his partner, Chema (Eugenio Siller). Valenzuela emphasized that these characters are a small representation of her personal history with her husband, who is Puerto Rican, and with whom she has a daughter.
“When I found out that he (Guzmán) was going to be Lorenzo’s character, I was very excited and the fan in me came out. When we had our first meeting, I was nervous because I was standing in front of Pantera, ”the writer said excitedly.
“The plot he did with Eugenio Siller is a very personal plot. It’s a plot that I have a lot of heart for and a lot of my own experience. Both Eugenio and Luis Roberto gave themselves in their own way, so respectful, so realistic, so honest that it is impossible not to empathize with that couple and that was what I wanted, ”he added.
The story provides another season
Contrary to what one of the production’s lead characters, Leo Deluglio, said, Chascas assured that the series, inspired by the detective style of English writer Agatha Christie, is for a third season. ‘History gives. This is basically a requirement when submitting something to a streaming (service). In general, I always think of a storyline that lasts at least three seasons. It doesn’t mean the three seasons are going to be made, but I want to make sure this thing I’m presenting has material that needs to be cut. I also want my bosses to know that if this goes well, there is a story to tell, ”he explained.
“I have no idea whether there will be a third season or not. Most likely, that’s one thing Netflix decides sometime after seeing the two on the air. I know there, ”he added.
Meanwhile, the writer informed this newspaper that he is already preparing a new series, although he did not bring up any details. Likewise, he indicated that he would launch another children’s book at the end of this year or next year.
