What Buffalo Bills’ Brian Daboll said about head coaching rumors

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is already a bit of a hot commodity and his team is still playing.

As the Bills (13-3) continue their season in their Wild Card match on Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts (11-5), more than half of the NFL won’t do the same. Their seasons are over and several of those teams have already made changes.

Those moves about the competition have many in western New York on their guard. Some think the Bills could soon lose Daboll’s services and no one really wants to given the steps Bills and quarterback Josh Allen’s offense took in 2020.

However, Daboll already had interview requests from the Jets and Chargers, so there’s a real possibility he’ll be poached by another team to be their next head coach.

Even with the rumor mill running more and more every day, Daboll spoke out during his weekly video conference on Monday that he had such a job. While grateful, he tried to assure Buffalo that he was focused on the task at hand.

I appreciate the question. We have a very important work to do here in a short week. Everything I’m going to do with our staff is focused on the Colts, ”said Daboll. “Humiliated by it, but focused on what we have to do here.”

“You are facing a great challenge. You better be focused, ”added Daboll.

The Bills certainly won’t get a win over the Colts, even if they’re near-touchdown favorites. Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott’s hope, like many, is that Daboll won’t be distracted by interviews scheduled for after the upcoming game. Teams aren’t allowed to talk to Daboll until after the Bills-Colts game, but he’ll still think about it.

Of course McDermott has of course supported nothing less than Daboll who could potentially get a performance.

“When you win, people want a lot of winners,” McDermott said earlier this week.

Stubborn? Could be. Accurate? Well, he has a point …
