What awaits the US as it approaches the death toll of 400,000 after Covid-19? – US and Canada – International


The United States, the country most affected by the pandemic in the world, reached 23,923,062 covid-19 cases and 397,494 dead, according to the independent Earl of Johns Hopkins University.

These figures represent 198,477 more infections than the day before and 2,109 additional deaths. The country is expected to pass 400,000 deaths from coronavirus disease between Monday and Tuesday.

The state of NY remains the worst hit in the country by the pandemic with 40,993 deaths, followed by California, now ranked second in statistics with 33,551, Texas (32,596), Florida (24,137) and New Jersey (20,414).

Other states with a high number of deaths are Illinois (20,050), Pennsylvania (19,255), Michigan (14,669), Massachusetts (13,652) and Georgia (12,296).

On the other hand, outgoing President Donald Trump lowered those estimates and was confidentor where the final figure is more likely between 50,000 and 60,000 died, although he later predicted up to 110,000 deaths, a number that has also been far exceeded.

In a decisive week for the country, President-elect Joe Biden announced that he wants to speed up the vaccination campaign. The Democrat hopes to assume the presidency on Jan. 20 and take a series of measures to deal with the pandemic.
