In the middle of one huge drop in sales and rumors about the sale of his telephone company to consumersIt seems that Huawei has decided to proceed with the release of its super premium second generation foldable phone later this month

In an official post on Weibo, Huawei teased the arrival of the Mate X2 on February 22nd. This is the long-expected follow-upto the original Mate X from back in 2019 and the slightly more polished Mate Xs from 2020. The big change, which is not entirely clear from the teaser photo, is that the Mate X2 the rumor goes equipped with a flexible display that can be folded inwardsequivalent to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold2instead of the outward-curving panel that Huawei used on its previous foldable phones.

When Samsung and Huawei launched their first foldable phones, the contrasting constructions of the Galaxy Fold and Mate X caused a lot of discussion about which design would ultimately win, each with a number of advantages and disadvantages.

On phones like the Galaxy Fold, it seems to offer the use of an inward folding design a little more durability, as when closed, the phone’s delicate, flexible screen is protected from scratches by sturdier glass or metal sides (although, as we saw, there are other ways for a foldable phone damaged). The biggest drawback of an inward-facing folding screen is its thickness, because when the phone is closed, you lose access to the flexible display, requiring phone manufacturers to add a secondary outer display, increasing the phone’s dimensions.

F.or outward-folding phones, the wider radius of the bend means there is less chance of a crease in the center of a flexible screen. B.Because it is the flexible screen case of the Mate X. Around almost the entire device when closed, Huawei was able to avoid recording a secondary screen and use a single camera module to take selfies and more traditional photos. This meant that the Mate X was significantly thinner than the Galaxy Fold, while also featuring fewer redundant components. But even though Huawei made it cases for the Mate X, itThe flexible screen was often left unprotected, which was understandable cause for concern for many buyers.

The rumored specifications for the Mate X2 include a primary 8-inch folding screen and a 6.45-inch secondary screen, that is it looks like Huawei have assessed Samsung’s designs and decided to also test an inward-facing folding screen.

The Mate X2 can also contain built-in stylus support (something the Galaxy Z Fold2 doesn’t have) and a new laptop mode that lets you turn the phone sideways and use it like a super small PC. Laptop mode evidence was discovered after a few unofficial Mate X2 phone displays appeared online, and while it would certainly require specialized software or tweaks to make it work, the Mate X2’s laptop mode could be a significant step forward in the evolution of foldable phones.

THEOther rumors include a selection of high-end components, including support for 5G, a quad camera module with a maximum 10x zoom, up to 512 GB storage and extremely fast 66W fast charging.

Huawei plans to officially unveil the Mate X2 on February 22, but is considering previous Huawei foldable phones is only available in China and Huawei is still banned from support for Google Mobile Services, it is the Mate X2 is unlikely to be on sale here in the States.
