Costumes for the former, power-ups for the latter
It’s not every day that we get two amiibo stories!
As we get to both, Monster Hunter Rise is undoubtedly the protagonist here, as Capcom just explained what the trio amiibo will be doing in their new Monster Hunter video breakdown.
As a reminder, it comes with Magnamalo (monster), Palamute (dog), and Palico (cat) amiibo, each of which will offer different functions. The former unlocks Magnamalo-flavored armor for your hunter, the Palamute amiibo in turn gives you a new Palamute cosmetic style, and the latter (you guessed it) pairs with a Palico cosmetic. Note that there is another easy-to-miss piece on the site: “You can also play a daily lottery to win various useful items.” Usually this is a standard amiibo functionality that is as old as Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It is possible that each amiibo acts as a kind of lottery opportunity.
Oh, and we also have more of an idea of what the Super Mario 3D World: Bowser’s Fury functionality will bring, thanks to a new website landing page. Simply put, the section at the bottom of amiibo (which currently involves the Cat Mario and Cat Peach figures) says, “Use the cute new Cat Mario and Cat Peach amiibo figures to unlock power-ups. “
Unlock power-ups. I’m sure some of you non-collectors will be relieved to learn it’s not essential. That said, the Cat duo has been readily available since preorder, while the Monster Hunter numbers are still tied to GameStop (and have been for sale online ever since, but it’s GameStop too, so I have the hesitation).
