Resident Evil Village is certainly one of the most anticipated game releases of 2021. In our recent community poll, the eight main Resident Evil game is ranked fifth with 10% of the total votes in the category.
Much has been said about Lady Dimitrescu, one of Ethan Winters’ antagonists in the game. Her vampy looks and powerset seem brand new to Resident Evil, but in an interview published in the latest Playstation Official Magazine (March 2021, issue 185), CAPCOM producer Peter Fabiano explained that everything in Resident Evil Village will eventually fit the franchise lore.
Dimitrescu and her three daughters all listen back to what you’d expect from vampire stories. We’re not saying they are, but there is definitely something that feels supernatural about what’s going on.
We don’t want to spoil too much of the story, but what I can say is that the creatures all fit
within the context of the world of Resident Evil. We can assure you that Resident Evil Village takes into account the overall world and history of the series.
Fabiano went on to say the team believes it is putting the finishing touches on what will be the ‘best survival horror game’ ever with Resident Evil Village.
Concepts and plans have been running through the minds of our developers since the end of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. The team became quite attached to Ethan as a character, so we knew we wanted to continue his storyline. We wanted to let players experience the game through the eyes of protagonist Ethan Winters. After all, this is a continuation of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard.
This really helped keep our vision on track. And since we’re constantly sharing information with Resident Evil teams, that really helped us create what we consider to be the best survival horror game to date.
Last but not least, Fabiano said Resident Evil Village got a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4, the episode of the series with the highest rating for critics (96 on Metacritic).
You will find that we took a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4. The team put a lot of effort into creating a truly authentic feeling. There are plenty of surprises to keep you on your toes; players will find a balance between fighting, exploring and solving puzzles.
