‘We are going to wear masks for a number of months’

Friday on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci, the use of masks when local governments across the country relaxed restrictions due to the improvement in coronavirus numbers.

Fauci stressed the importance of wearing masks at the moment, but said the length of mask wearing should not be “measured in years.” However, he advised that “we will wear masks for several, several months.”

There will still be an important need to wear masks. I think we have yet to do that, ”said Fauci, pushing for a safe and gradual reopening of the land.

“When you say you need masks, do you mean for some time – in the near future – a year, two years, three years?” asked host George Stephanopoulos.

“I’m not too sure it’s measured in years, George, but I think until we get the virus level to such a low level in the community, and I said a projection – and it’s just a projection – which hopefully if we get all people vaccinated, say 70-85% of people who are vaccinated, the virus level in the community could be so low that you could pull back a little bit on the strict public health measures, ”he replied “You don’t want to do it all at once, but I think we’ll be wearing masks for several months in the future.”
