Wayne Ellington fires back at Klay Thompson, Draymond Green after shots they took at Pistons’ Rodney McGruder

Klay Thompson may not be a good fit for the Warriors this season, but that won’t stop him from shooting. Thompson had some strong words for Detroit’s Rodney McGruder after McGruder faced the Warriors bench on Saturday night right after Golden State’s victory 118-91.

After the last horn, McGruder approached and exchanged words with Juan Toscano-Anderson before being led away by team personnel. After the tensions seemed to ease, Thompson, who had joined the Warriors broadcast, couldn’t resist toasting McGruder.

“This guy might be out of the competition soon, he’s probably mad about that,” Thompson said. “He’s trying to start something here like he’s a good player or something. It’s like, buddy, get out of here … ‘

Thompson was eventually cut off by a member of the Warriors broadcasting team, who likely stepped in to prevent Thompson from going overboard or saying anything he would regret.

After the game, Draymond Green also weighed in on the brief altercation between McGruder and Toscano-Anderson.

“When the [expletive] has Rodney McGruder become the tough guy on the team? Green asked during his post-game press show. I don’t know the man, everyone in the league is difficult these days. It’s crazy. I’ve seen a lot of tough guys this year. I don’t understand – and no one is doing anything. Like, if you really wanted to do something, you could have done it. [Expletive] talking there, like he’s the tough guy on the team. Get out of here. ‘

Detroit’s Wayne Ellington apparently heard all the talk and fired back on Sunday.

“First of all, I find it very unprofessional and certainly not stylish for someone to attack Rodney’s professional career as it was attacked,” Ellington told reporters on Sunday. “To be honest, the man over there, Juan, is the one who started the whole thing. Rod is a man of respect, just like me, and I felt like he took offense at everything the man said to me in the first half. .

“For Draymond to sit up there and talk all that crazy stuff behind a microphone, I think that’s fake tough stuff, to be honest.”

There may not have been any real punches thrown, but it sure seems like everyone got away from what happened and felt a little salty.
