Olivia Rodrigo did it The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to give her debut TV appearance of her runaway hit ‘Drivers License’.
Rodrigo played the song while playing the piano under a rotating spotlight, accompanied by a string section, giving the song a more orchestral feel than the original.
Rodrigo’s To fall upon her performance marks her first public performance of the song since its release early last month. Check it out below:
‘Drivers License’ was an almost immediate success upon release, breaking numerous Spotify streaming records. It currently holds the record for the most streams of a song in a single week on the platform (over 80 million), as well as the record for the most one-day streams of a non-holiday song.
Speak against NME about the song’s success, Rodrigo said, “I mean, that’s just all … All the recognition the song has is beyond my wildest dreams.”
“Taylor Swift – is my songwriting idol and I wouldn’t be half the woman and songwriter I am without her today – reached out and supported the song so well,” she continued.
“I recently found out that Lorde likes it, Halsey likes it, all these people I grew up with say they like the song.”
The song continues to top both the UK and US charts and recently got a stripped-down cover from Yungblud.
