The Washington Football Team will not change its name until the 2022 season, but the process will be documented through the newly launched site WashingtonJourney.com.
“We’ve switched from our old name. Now is the time to write a new legacy,” the site says. “The future of Washington Football arrives in 2022.”
The franchise has been deliberately rebranded and follows a five-phase timeline. The final stage, execution, is a lot to reveal a new name that will last “for the next 100 years.”
The site also offers the opportunity for fans to submit ideas for a new name, with proposals including the Generals, Justice and Rhinos.
The organization withdrew its previous name – which was a racist slur for Indians – last off-season, before announcing in July that it would be going through the Washington Football Team until a permanent name was chosen.
