The huge merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and France’s Groupe PSA cleared one of their final regulatory hurdles at the end of December and the final transaction will take place tomorrow, January 4, 2020. But that’s only if Frank B. Rhodes, Jr., great-grandson of Walter P. Chrysler, does not get his say.

Rhodes is organizing on December 24, 2020 filed a last-minute complaint suggesting some changes to the merger plan. And it sounds like he’s not happy with, well, something.

“This alternative proposal is, in my opinion, superior to the planned merger and would result in the return to the United States of the Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram Brands and away from the proposed Chinese and foreign control proposed in the Merger,” Rhodes said in one press release.

One of Rhodes’ main complaints concerns the name Stellantis, which is the title that the merged group will assume. Instead he wants it to be called ‘Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram Corporation ‘- which takes absolutely no account of the purpose of the merger.

In addition, Rhodes has proposed that Stellantis keep its European headquarters in London, but move its key functions to the United States. That would allow existing management and employees to linger. He really don’t want this America brand to become something more global.

He has filed a complaint with both the manager of Stellantis and the United States Senators to remind them that this will not be a good thing for America.

At this point in the venture, it is unlikely that we will see a major overhaul of the proposed merger, especially those that threaten the integrity of both brands.
