“The subject I would say is armed and potentially dangerous,” said Darby Township Police chief Mike Sousa.
Police say it started around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday at Walmart on MacDade Boulevard in Darby Township, when the suspect and an employee got into an argument. The two ended up in the vestibule at the front of the store when police said the suspect fired one shot at the employee. The shot missed and no one was injured.
“From what we got in the store, this is just an arbitrary act. These two didn’t know each other. It was some kind of verbal argument the suspect had with the employee, possibly about a video game sale,” Sousa said.
Police say he was involved in another incident in Upper Darby after fleeing Walmart and then returned to his home 400 block of Main Street in Darby Borough.
Multiple agencies responded, including officers in SWAT gear, who surrounded his home and blocked the street. Police now believe the suspect fled his home before officers arrived.
“We used the emergency response team to try to locate the suspect. We cannot find him at the moment,” said Darby Borough Police chief Joseph Gabe.
Police took two of the suspect’s vehicles into custody, including this white Chevy Impala parked near his house.
“He may be on foot or someone picked him up,” Sousa said.
Walmart released a statement saying they are working with authorities and the store is expected to reopen Monday.
