Walmart in Visalia to close for the weekend for cleaning and disinfection

FRESNO, California (KFSN) – One after another, people who want to shop at the Visalia Walmart Supercenter on Mooney Boulevard are being rejected.

The store has closed, and Walmart officials say it will stay that way all weekend – while cleaning crews work to clean the entire building.

“The Super Walmart at Mooney is a huge business and impacting people,” said Visalia Mayor Steve Nelson.

Officials did not want to confirm whether the shutdown was related to a COVID outbreak, but had this to say in a statement: “Everything we do is for the well-being of our employees and customers, and in compliance with the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Monitoring (CDC) and health experts. We will continue to work closely with elected and local health officials and adapt how we serve the community. ”

Nelson says he is still waiting to find out the cause of the shutdown.

“I’ve read their press release,” he said. “They’re talking about the pandemic, but it’s never been solidified that it’s because of a COVID situation.”

Many customers were diverted to the Walmart location on Nobel Avenue.

At the end of Saturday afternoon, the parking lot was full.

“If you’re concerned, there are several ways to shop,” said Nelson. “You can shop online, you can go to your local businesses, there are fewer people packed in the store.”

The Walmart Supercenter on Mooney is expected to reopen Monday at 7am.
