Vice President Mike Pence has not ruled out the use of the 25th Amendment against President Trump in the event his mood becomes more unstable in the days leading up to the inauguration day, a report said.
Pence’s team is concerned that invoking the 25th Amendment – which could be used to remove a president from office – or starting an impeachment lawsuit could spur Trump into action putting the nation in danger, he said. a source to CNN.
Pence’s goal for the time being is to ensure that there is a smooth transition between the Trump administration and President-elect Joe Biden’s team, and to ensure that Biden is prepared to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, the source told the network.
Trump and Pence have not spoken since Wednesday’s Capitol Hill attack, CNN reported. Thousands of Trump supporters attended the violent siege attempt, which killed at least five people, including a police officer and an Air Force veteran.
Pence has come under fire from Trump for refusing to stop the electoral college count, which Congress confirmed early on Thursday and officially declared Biden the election winner.
On Friday, before Twitter permanently shut down Trump’s personal account, the president tweeted that he would not be attending Biden’s inauguration.

House Democrats have already drafted impeachment articles accusing Trump of “instigating an uprising,” which will be formally introduced Monday.
In a letter Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote to Democrats on Saturday, “There must be an acknowledgment that this desecration was provoked by the president.”
