Virus infections are still being reported as hospital admissions trickle down

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – Progress on the new coronavirus pandemic in Iowa stayed close to recent trends in new data from the state on Sunday.

As of 10:30 a.m., the Iowa Department of Public Health said that 336 individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours had been reported to the state, bringing the state’s total to 339,544. The state no longer keeps track of people considered to have recovered from the disease.

Since Saturday morning, six more people who have died of the virus have been added to the state total. The total number of people who have died from COVID-19 in Iowa is now 5,558.

167 people are hospitalized because of the virus, a net decrease of three. 35 of those patients are in intensive care, a net decrease of three. Six of those patients require the use of a ventilator, a net decrease of four. Since the last report on Saturday morning, 31 people have recently been admitted to hospitals in Iowa, a percentage consistent with recent days.

So far, a total of 864,749 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Iowa, up from 42,291 since the same time on Saturday. 263,782 people have completed their two-stage series of those vaccines.

Initial tests of 1,932 individuals were reported to the state in the past 24 hours. The positivity percentage for these batch of tests was 17.4%. A total of 1,576,995 people have been tested for the virus since the start of the pandemic.
