In a brutal robbery caught on camera, a person jumped out of a car in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood on Friday and smashed into the rear window of a Prius, stealing a bag containing what police said was filled with a drone and camera equipment.
San Francisco police said the incident, which was widely shared in a video posted to Twitter, appeared to be consistent with a report being investigated Friday at 4:30 p.m.
The suspect was riding in the backseat of a Honda car approaching the Prius while waiting to enter the driveway of Interstate 80 towards Oakland, according to a third driver’s car camera. The suspect opened the Honda’s door and started to step out when the Prius stopped, but then quickly closed it as the Prius drove forward.
When the Prius pulled up again, a person in a hoodie jumped out of Honda and smashed the Prius’s rear window, removed the bag and ran back to the getaway car.
In the last seconds of the video posted on Twitterthe driver of the Prius and a passenger can see their doors open and run to the trunk of the vehicle, but the suspect’s vehicle is already starting to run.
Additional information about this incident was not readily available.
The robbery comes just a week after famed private investigator Jack Palladino was seriously injured after two men in a car tried to steal his expensive camera. Palladino was dragged, his head hit, and later died.
Palladino’s camera was recovered and had footage that assisted in the arrest of two suspects.
