Video shows a man rescuing a child who fell on train tracks as oncoming train barrels enter the station

A man is hailed as a hero after risking his life to save a child who fell on train tracks at Vangani station in Mumbai, India, when an oncoming train pulled into the station, according to India’s Ministry of Railways.

The ministry has released a video showing Shri Mayur Shelke running at full speed over a series of train tracks to rescue a child who fell from the platform onto the track as a train approached.

The video, captured by security cameras at the station, shows the child initially walking next to an unidentified person as they slide down from the edge of the platform. The video shows the child struggling to get back onto the platform and the unidentified person reaching for the sky and struggling to get them to safety.

As the oncoming train rapidly approaches, Shelke can be seen sprinting towards the child and throwing them onto the platform seconds before a train blows past them, darting in to save their lives with just moments left.

Shelke works as a changer at the Vangani station where the incident took place. After his heroic efforts, the Ministry of Railways congratulated Shelke in a press release, praised him for his actions and offered him a monetary reward of 50,000 rupees.

The Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal, announced the reward in a press release shared by the Ministry of Railways online. The announcement congratulates Shelke on “the act of courage, courage, and presence of spirit” during his service.

The Ministry continued to celebrate Shelke for his brave act with standing applause from their staff and a personal congratulation from the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), as seen in a video shared on their Twitter account.
