VIDEO: Mexican Mauricio Lara surprises boxing after knocking out featherweight number one and getting rid of his unbeaten 30-0

The Latin American, with a professional record of 22-2-0, admitted to being “a little sad” not having fought for the title. “That may come in the future,” he assures.

British International Boxing Federation (IBF) Featherweight Champion Josh Warrington, was knocked out by Mexican Mauricio ‘Bronco’ Lara on Saturday in the ninth round of their fight at Wembley Arena in London.

Warrington came out as a favorite – undefeated 30-0-0 – to take on Lara as part of preparing for his return to fight for new titles after more than a year of inactivity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. His belt was not at stake, as the fighter left it in January to fight for the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association championships.

In the first three episodes, the location showed solidity and did not seem to have lost the high standard that characterizes it. On the next fall, however, he suffered his first fall after a surefire combination of blows from the Mexican who, in the opinion of many, should have won at the time. Although Warrington was offensive in the following rounds, he seemed hit and not focused.

The ninth round came and with a left shot, Bronco sent his opponent back to the canvas after delivering nearly a dozen hits. The referee, whose decision to continue the fight in the fourth round, was contested, this time ended the match and announced the winner.

Warrington did not offer any further interviews, as he required additional medical attention. Meanwhile, the Latin American, with a professional record of 22-2-0, expressed his happiness and gratitude for the chance to meet the division’s number one, though he confessed to feeling ‘a hint of grief’ for had not fought for the world title. “That may come in the future,” he assures.
