Local authorities reported one was injured as a result of the earthquake

An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale was recorded today off the coast of the Japanese city of Miyagi.

The earthquake occurred at 6:09 PM local time (09:09 GMT), the epicenter was about 20 kilometers from the Ojika peninsula, in Miyagi, and at a depth of 60 kilometers, detailed the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA, acronym in the English) .

Images of the time of the earthquake showed staff at a local hospital having difficulty standing, as well as ceiling lights and other moving equipment.

A tsunami watch was initially issued by the government warning that a tsunami of up to three feet could hit some parts of the coastal areas of Miyagi prefecture. However, the JMA slammed the warning at around 7:30 p.m. local time.

The warning was issued due to the possibility of some changes in the level of the tides, but there is no concern about tsunami damage.
