There was a time when Sega made a significant effort to keep their legacy titles, allowing new fans to experience games even if dated by them. Fast forward to the modern age and the company only seems interested in re-releasing Sonic 1 & 2 on every platform imaginable (not the cool widescreen port).
We’ve passed multiple console generations without proper preservation for this franchise, and some titles, such as Neo Geo Pocket Color’s Sonic Pocket Adventure, have never been reissued. That’s what we want to look at today – Sonic titles that are at least 15 years old and locked to their original hardware.
We’re also not just highlighting an old game, they either have to be really fantastic, an important part of the franchise’s history, or have the potential to be improved with modern hardware. (Sorry Sonic’s Schoolhouse, maybe next time)
Have you played any of the games from this video and are there any others you’d like to see reappear?
