In an effort to be helpful, Verizon accidentally put his foot in his mouth on Sunday and then turned back furious.

In a tweet on Sunday, which was noticed by the edge Verizon Wireless CS told customers that if they had more battery consumption than usual, they should enable LTE. As The Verge explains, the implication in this tweet leads customers to disable 5G on phones that have it Considering Verizon big push in 5G, this seems a bit weird.

“Do you notice that your battery life is decreasing faster than normal?” Verizon wrote in the tweet. “One way to extend battery life is to enable LTE. Simply go to Cellular> Cellular Data Options> Voice and Data and tap LTE. “

A user on Twitter pointed it out this irony Verizon replied to the user, but didn’t really go into his previous battery advice, opting to talk about 5G speeds. The original tweet about saving battery life by switching to LTE has since been removed, although you can see the 5G answer Below

Gizmodo reached out to Verizon to ask for clarification as to whether it was really telling customers to turn off their 5G to extend battery life. We will make sure to update this blog if we hear back.

Like Mashable points out.5G could very well be the cause of battery drain for some phonesMany new features and technology don’t work as initially thought, which makes sense Besides, 5G is one ongoing work in the U.S. Tackling this in a roundabout way is rather unpleasant. Of course, if Verizon came out and said 5G could be the cause of the battery draining some people might get cranky, which is also understandable given the fanfare around 5GBut at least it would be the truth.

A quick search shows that other companies have addressed this problem without a messy one PR situation. Samsung, for example, has one support page on the issue of battery draining in 5G service The manufacturer acknowledged that this problem was legit and explained that it was due to a limitation of current 5G networks, but that this would improve as 5G networks expand. Huawei also addressed the issue on a support page, stating that a 5G network consumes more bandwidth online and therefore may use more power.

See Verizon, transparency is not that difficult.
