Vegas Golden Knights get Chicago Blackhawks’ Mattias Janmark in NHL trade

The Vegas Golden Knights have taken over attacker Mattias Janmark of the Chicago Blackhawks for a second round in the 2021 NHL draft, sources told ESPN’s Emily Kaplan. Chicago also sends a fifth round next year for the third-rounder of Vegas.

Chicago had scratched the 28-year-old out of Sunday’s game in view of Monday’s trade deadline. While the Blackhawks are close to the playoffs, they are in the midst of a youth movement.

Janmark was a depth-striker for the Stars for the first four seasons of his career, never breaking 40 points. But he surprised in Chicago and even made time with the power game. He repaid the bigger role with 10 goals and nine assists in 41 games.

The Golden Knights are preparing for a deep run in the play-offs. They are currently second in the West Division, four points behind the Avalanche.

Janmark is a low risk rental property to the homestretch as he will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

This is the second consecutive season that the Blackhawks and Golden Knights have agreed on the trade deadline. Last year, Chicago sent goalkeeper Robin Lehner to Vegas for goalkeeper Malcolm Subban. Lehner re-signed with the Golden Knights in the off season.
