Vanessa Bryant says that Evan Rachel Wood who calls her late husband Kobe Bryant a “rapist” on the day he died is “mean” and “disturbing”.
Hours after Kobe’s death on January 26, 2020, the 33-year-old “Westworld” actress tweeted: “What happened is tragic. I am devastated for Kobe’s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist. And all of these truths can exist simultaneously. ”
Vanessa, 38, posted on her Instagram story on Saturday that the tweet came to her attention just over a year later.
“Your false, insensitive, defamatory and defamatory tweet on 1/26/20 is despicable and disturbing to say the least,” the NBA player’s widow wrote of a screenshot of the original tweet. “This kind of behavior is part of the reason why innocent black men go to jail for crimes they didn’t commit. An accusation does not make anyone guilty. ”
“YOU DON’T KNOW THE FACTS OF THE CASE,” she added. Vanessa sent the same message to film producer Abigail Disney, who tweeted at the time: “The man was a rapist. Take it. ”
Kobe was charged with sexual assault by a 19-year-old Colorado hotel worker in 2003. Prosecutors have dropped charges after the prosecution declined to testify. She later filed a civil suit against the Los Angeles Laker, which was settled out of court in 2005.
Wood’s tweet immediately caused a backlash in 2020, with fans coming to defend Kobe’s defense. Actress Kyla Pratt replied that she admired Wood’s work, but “this tweet? How the hell do you dare? “
Vanessa posted and thanked Pratt for her response to Wood on Saturday.
A Wood representative did not immediately return our request for comment.
Earlier this month, Wood called her alleged abuser ex-fiancé Marilyn Manson.
“He started nursing me when I was a teenager and he abused me horribly for years,” she claimed. “I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I have finished living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I’m here to expose this dangerous man and name the many industries that made him possible, before ruining any more lives. I stand behind the many victims who will no longer be silent. ”
After several allegations from Wood and other women, Manson – who has vehemently denied all allegations – was dropped by his record label and longtime manager.
“Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are terrible distortions of reality,” Manson, 52, wrote in a statement. “My intimate relationships have always been a consensus with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others choose now to misrepresent the past, that’s the truth. “
