Vanessa Bryant calls out Meek Mill about his very dark lyrics about Kobe’s death

Vanessa Bryant maybe not familiar enough with the music of Meek Mill to say whether she likes it or not, but she was definitely willing to take a stand against some of its lyrical content when it came to the horrific helicopter crash that cost her her husband and daughter.

The rule first came to the attention of Kobe Bryant fans and the internet in general last week – and they had a lot to say about it back then – and in the meantime it was apparently brought to the attention of his widow as well.

She was not impressed by what she saw.

“I find this line extremely insensitive and disrespectful. Period,” Vanessa wrote on her Instagram Stories Monday evening, about a screenshot of the song’s lyrics.

“I’m not familiar with your music, but I believe you can do better than this,” she continued. “If you’re a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband. There is a lack of respect and tact. ‘

While it’s not clear yet if there’s any relationship Vanessa is calling him out or if it’s just a matter of awkward timing, Meek Mill started a tweet storm shortly after Vanessa’s post hit her Stories.

“I’m going back furious in this shit … f #% k ya feelings!” he wrote in his first tweet, which followed her post very quickly. That was followed by statements including “Ion trust people gotta play it raw ……” and “Head taps for n #% ga tryna pull my card!” and “Bobby back ….. we needed that.”

He went on for at least a few hours, with one statement that seems to be in response to – well, something. “I don’t think we have the same signal, all of you .. I don’t see what you all see… I smile at it just like I did,” he tweeted. “I say random shit all day on social media … it’s becoming a trend to hate me every once in a while, but I’m literally feeding on that shit ima beast.”

But while it’s unclear exactly what he’s referring to in these posts, it’s very clear that his fans and followers would know exactly what Vanessa wrote if he took a moment to check out the comments under each one.

“Under no circumstances would you respond to a widow who said your lyrics were disrespectful to her husband,” one follower wrote after his first tweet. There were similar feelings in response to each of his messages.

Vanessa Bryant’s post and Meek Mills’ response (or totally unrelated tweets) both quickly sent them viral to the top of Twitter’s trending topics, while the social media platform weighed in on the controversy.
