MADRID – Valencia has made another attempt to take out Ajax’s loan from Mexican Edson Álvarez before the winter market closes, several sources have confirmed to ESPN.
The contacts between the Mexican midfielder and Valencia are satisfactory, but they still have to convince Ajax to make the operation a success.
De Ché tried to take advantage of Edson’s lack of minutes at Ajax to get his loan for free, but Ajax resolutely refused that possibility. So, as ESPN learned, Valencia is now considering offering an economic amount to meet the demands of its coach Javi Gracia.
The operation will not be easy as Ajax sources, consulted by ESPN, assure their idea of having Edson through to the end of the season will persist.
Edson Álvarez would welcome a change of scenery after playing just four games as a starter in the Eredivisie during the first half of the season. Sources close to the player tell ESPN that he must play at the age of 23 to continue his progression and they think Valencia could be a good place to do that.
However, the Che team is ranked 14th in La Liga and needs reinforcement in both midfield and defense after a summer showing off several of their stars, such as Dani Parejo or Francis Coquelin.
