Vaccine was ruled out as a cause of death in the NorCal man who had COVID-19, officials say

Authorities have determined that the coronavirus vaccine did not contribute to the death of a Northern California man at the beginning of the month, authorities said Saturday.

“Clinical research and laboratory results have determined that the COVID-19 vaccine has been ruled out as a contributing factor to the death of the individual,” the Placer County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post.

Last week, the sheriff’s department reported that a man died hours after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, although they did not specify which vaccine the person received.

Authorities say the 64-year-old man worked as a health worker at an institution in Placer County. He started complaining about side effects within ten minutes of vaccination, which led to the sheriff’s decision to notify the public of the investigation.

The department said Saturday that they had learned during their investigation that not only had he recently been diagnosed with COVID-19, but he also had underlying health problems and was showing symptoms of the disease at the time the vaccine was administered.

The coroner said Tim Zook’s cause of death is inconclusive for now and further toxicology testing will take months. Zook, 60, worked as an X-ray technologist at the South Coast Global Medical Center in Santa Ana.
