Utah administers nearly 47,000 COVID-19 vaccines in one day

The state is also reporting 444 new cases and nine additional deaths.

The Utah Department of Health reported Friday that nearly 47,000 people had received COVID-19 vaccines the previous day. And with that, the number of Utahns now fully vaccinated against the corona virus is approaching 650,000.

The state also reported 444 new cases of the disease and nine other deaths. Eight of the nine occurred before March 18 and were only recently confirmed to be caused by COVID-19. And after further testing, the state removed a fatal accident announced Feb. 21 after it was determined to be unrelated to the coronavirus.

Vaccine Doses Administered Over the Last Day / Total Doses Administered • 46,995 / 1,650,850.

Utahns fully vaccinated • 649,354.

Cases reported in the past day • 444

Deaths reported in the past day • Nine.

Salt Lake County reported five deaths: a man and two women, ages 65-84, and a man and woman, ages 85 and older.

Two people were killed in Davis County: a man and a woman 85 and older. Another 85-plus man died in Cache County. And Weber County reported the death of a woman aged 65-84.

Tests reported in the past day • 5,264 people were tested for the first time. A total of 12,293 people were tested.

Hospital admissions reported in the past day • 140. There are two starting Thursday. Of those currently hospitalized, 55 are in intensive care units – two more than on Thursday.

Percentage of positive tests • According to the state’s original method, the rate is 8.4%. That is higher than the seven-day average of 7%.

The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests from the same person. Friday’s rate was 3.6%, slightly higher than the seven-day average of 3.4%.
