For a few days now, a new form of scam has been implemented via WhatsApp, the police warned today.
The institution explained via Twitter how the scammers operate and also noted that they have already received several reports of the crime from various points of the San Salvados metropolitan area.

“They have been known to write to random people with a foreign number and pretend to be a famous person, asking if they know who it is? and the victims associate someone they know who may be living outside the country, and the scam starts, ” police wrote on the social network.
Afterwards, the offender says “he is about to return to the country and that he is asking for your help, either to receive his luggage or to help him financially, for which he is asking for a photo of his DUI for” customs procedures “or bail money by international bank transfer.”

Before the police report, some users remembered the typical scam a few years ago when scammers used Guatemalan phone numbers for their misdeeds.
At the time, the scammers told the victim that they had won a vehicle and money, then asked for a DUI number and bank account to deliver the prize.
Then the victim deposited money into an account of the interlocutor so that he could handle the vehicle and the money in Guatemala.
